Een kleine eenzame jongen met een oud, tweedehands instrument groeit op tot een virtuoze trompettist. Hij begint met optreden in achterkroegen, maar belandt in chique clubs. Hij raakt echter aan de drank wanneer hij "die ene noot" maar niet kan vinden.
